Albany — The Business Council of New York State today announced the launch of its new website, a public information platform designed to track proposed New York State legislation and evaluate how it may impact affordability for consumers, workers, and businesses.
The website introduces a framework that reviews public policy proposals based on their potential effects on household costs, taxes, housing affordability, energy expenses, job growth, and the overall cost of doing business in New York.
“At a time when affordability remains one of the top concerns for New Yorkers, it is critical that residents have access to clear, accessible information about how proposed legislation could impact their financial well-being,” said Paul Zuber, Executive Vice President,The Business Council of New York State. “This website is designed to bring greater transparency and accountability to the policymaking process by focusing on one simple question: will this make New York more or less affordable?”
The site includes a legislative tracker that evaluates bills based on affordability criteria and provides explanations of their potential economic impact. The platform is intended to serve as an educational resource for the public, policymakers, and stakeholders seeking to better understand the cost implications of legislative proposals.
Features of the website include:
· A legislative tracker reviewing proposals through an affordability lens
· Clear explanations of how certain bills may affect costs for New Yorkers
· Updates on affordability-related policy discussions
· Resources focused on economic competitiveness and cost-of-living issues
New Yorkers for Affordability says the initiative is part of a broader effort to encourage informed public discussion around policies that affect economic opportunity and financial stability across the state.
The first group of proposed bills placed on the website includes:
· Current process of the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA): NOT AFFORDABLE
· Packaging Reduction and Recycling Infrastructure Act: NOT AFFORDABLE
· Restore consistency with federal refrigerant standards: AFFORDABLE
· $200 Pre-Tax Transportation Benefit: AFFORDABLE
· NYC Small Business Rent Stabilization Act: NOT AFFORDABLE
· Health Insurance Employee Mandates: NOT AFFORDABLE
· Affordable Waste Reduction Act: AFFORDABLE
“New Yorkers deserve a straight forward way to understand how government decisions may impact their everyday expenses,” Zuber added. “Our goal is to help ensure affordability remains a central consideration in policy discussions.”
The website will continue to expand with additional bill analyses, research, and updates as the legislative session progresses.
